RCM 10-Day Facilitator Training Course Overview

Objectives

  • To increase significantly the delegates technical competency in RCM2 and to let the delegates develop as facilitators
  • Provide hands-on experience of facilitating (both a case study and a “real” analysis) but in a classroom environment where mistakes may be made without risk
  • Provide sufficient understanding of the approach so that delegates can be confident and competent to act as RCM2 Facilitators with a minimum amount of further supervision downstream.

Audience

  • Those who wish to become an RCM2 Facilitator
  • Facilitation is demanding and requires technical, numeracy and people skills. The delegates should not be experts in the systems that are being reviewed but should be natural consensus builders and highly methodical
  • Anyone who will be responsible for implementing and/or managing the application of RCM2 and auditing results. 

Pre-requisites

  • Delegates must have attended the 3-day RCM2 course before attending the 10-day RCM2 Facilitators’ Course

Tools and Methods

  • Highly participative, hands-on practice at facilitating with some formal lecturing
  • Comprehensive course notes, exercises and case study materials are provided together with "solutions" to all exercises and case studies.

Sessions

  • Duration: 10 days
  • Number of delegates: 4-8 (often syndicated with other clients)
  • Location: Any suitable venue

Expected Output

  • At the end of the course, the delegates should be able to prepare for and conduct an RCM2 analysis on a straightforward system. It is likely, however, that the delegates will require some support (either from the course tutor or an experienced facilitator) when they undertake their first analysis after the training course
  • The maintenance tasks resulting from an RCM2 analysis may then be written into the maintenance management system.

Content

THE ROLE OF THE FACILITATOR

The role of the facilitators is to work with the RCM2 analysis groups to complete the analysis, and to ensure that:

  • RCM2 is applied correctly (specifically, this entails asking the RCM2 questions, ensuring that the questions have been correctly understood, and ensuring that, as far as possible, the groups reach genuine consensus about the answers)
  • All the documentation associated with the RCM2 review process is completed correctly
  • No significant equipment is overlooked
  • The review meetings progress reasonably quickly and are kept under control
  • The RCM2 analysis is completed in good time
  • The decisions taken as part of the RCM2 analysis process are audited by those designated so to do
CASE STUDY 1
  • A challenging case study provided by the tutor to develop the delegates’ understanding of RCM2 and to give delegates facilitation practice
FAILURE-FINDING
  • The theory of determining FFIs (failure finding intervals) and in-depth exercises to develop competency in handling Failure-Finding Interval (FFI) calculations
CASE STUDY 2
  • An RCM2 analysis on one of the systems from the host site. This provides facilitation practice on a “real-life” piece of equipment with a review group consisting of fellow course delegates and “experts” from the host company who understand the equipment/assets being analysed
